Graham Mastersmith

Graham Mastersmith is a painter, photographer,  printmaker and retired visual arts teacher. After a thirty-year career in education, he is grateful to have more time to travel and create works of art.

Since his early years, Graham has been captivated by birds, a fascination that has only increased over time.  The intricate beauty, vibrant colours, and melodic sounds of these creatures are reflected in his art. 

On this website, you will find a collection of Graham's artworks, each representing a unique expression of his artistic vision. While birds and the natural world remain his favourite subjects, his recent work takes a non-traditional approach. His paintings and mixed-media creations transcend the boundaries of realism through layered colours, juxtaposed patterns, textures, and collaged objects.

Each piece reflects his emotional connection to the subject rather than merely depicting their natural habitat. By placing each species in a reimagined environment, Graham invites viewers to see birds and the natural world in a creative and unique way.

 Graham holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Queen's University and has exhibited in several galleries, including the Art Gallery of Peterborough, the Station Gallery in Whitby, The Cube Gallery in Ottawa, and the Art Hub Gallery in Carleton Place. Additionally, he has showcased his work in outdoor events such as Art in the Park and the Wall Candy Art Sweetly Affordable Art Fair. Graham is a member of the West Carleton Arts Society and Arts Carleton Place.
